You Don't Want It Bad Enough

Are you having a hard time accomplishing your goals? Does it seem like everything just “gets in the way”? Have you been working towards the same goal for years and have made no progress?

I don’t mean to piss you off or hurt your feelings, but you just don’t want it bad enough.  Now, hear me out and try not to get defensive here.  If you are getting defensive that just means we are hitting on some sort of truth.  When we are driven toward a goal we have to sacrifice to some degree to get there.  Attaining a goal isn’t something that just falls into your lap, it takes work.

So, if you are sitting there upset and defeated about not attaining your goals, it’s time to analyze what the problem is.  Let me use weight loss as an example.  This seems to be a pretty big goal for a lot of people.  If you have 20 lbs. to lose and you have been trying to lose it for the past few years, the problem is YOU.  YOU just don’t want it bad enough. I know, you think I’m being mean or harsh but I’m just being honest.  Let’s look at some roadblocks about why you can’t seem to stick with a diet plan or why you can’t following a training program.

I want to get rid of these roadblocks.  First off, I can’t make you want it.  If you say you want to lose 20 lbs.  it is up to you to do everything in your power to make it happen.  This means you need to change your diet, get more physically active and change some lifestyle habits like sleep and alcohol.

First lets attack diet.  If you want to change your diet, there are tons of nutritionists and dieticians out there who would love to help you.  What if you cant afford that? Look up some books about nutrition and read them! You can even research your local University library and see what textbooks they use to teach nutrition courses.  What if you don’t read? Audible is a great resource to download books so you can listen to it while you go about your day.

A second resource would be a meal prepping service that delivers food to your door so you don’t have to cook and can get your meals planned out for you.

Second let’s look at workouts.  Hiring a personal trainer that will hold you accountable is one route.  Every Globo Gym has a training staff.  If you don’t like big Globo Gyms, you can find a local smaller gym that has classes or trainers who would love to work with you one on one.  Always interview a few trainers and find someone who is a good fit for you.  Also, Instagram or Facebook is loaded with people posting their workouts and giving fitness advice.  They post daily workouts, live workouts and even “how to” videos on how to execute the movements properly.  Now, grabbing workouts from the internet may not be the best option, but its free and there are plenty of amazing fitness professionals that post quality workouts.

And lastly, lifestyle.  I am referring to drinking and sleep here.  If you are trying to lose weight and you are drinking every night, you are not trying to lose weight.  Sorry to break it to ya.  Drinking needs to take a back seat to your bigger goals.  Now this goes back to the concept “How bad do you want it?”.  If you say you want to lose weight you can’t be drinking every night or even on the weekends.  It needs to go.  It affects your sleep which in turn effects your hormone balance and recovery.  Just get rid of it.  Oh, you need a drink on Saturday night? Then that means drinking means more to you than losing weight.

Second you need sleep! Sleep is when our bodies recover and we have a big hormonal dump.  These hormones help our body stay in balance and allows our bodies to lose unwanted weight.  You need 8-10 hours a night.  But what about your “down time”? Well, I guess you want your “down time” more than you want to lose weight.

know all this sounded harsh but if you do some real honest self assessment, you will find this to be true.  You can apply this concept to any goal you have that you can’t seem to accomplish. Sit down and write out the things that are holding you back.  Then one by one go through those problems and come up with possible solutions.  Need help?
